The tablet market is currently booming in the same way as the smartphone market was a couple of years ago, with manufacturers clambering to release their own devices.
Since the introduction of the iPad, it’s taken a while for consumers to really warm to the idea of an overgrown smartphone that can’t make calls.
But three iPads in, and we’re all keen to get our hands on these powerful yet portable machines. This has not gone unnoticed by manufacturers, who are launching devices as quickly as possible.
One manufacturer who got in on the tablet act last year was Sony, with the impressive Sony Tablet S. Now leaked info about the follow-up has started doing the rounds.
Dubbed the Xperia Sony Tablet, the device will be the first tablet to come under Sony’s revamped Xperia mobile range. So what do we know about it so far?
Xperia Sony Tablet specs
Sony has upgraded the Tablet S in all the right places for its second-gen device, boosting power, battery life and the camera.
On the inside, the Xperia Tablet is reported to be packing a quad-core Tegra 3 processor, and will come with Android ICS at the very least – we can probably expect a Jelly Bean upgrade at some point.
We’re also expecting to see a 6,000 mAh battery, doubling the Wi-Fi browsing time from five hours on the Tablet S to ten hours on the Xperia.
Xperia Sony Tablet features and release date
We can expect the same folded design that featured on the Tablet S, but the leaks suggest that the Xperia Tablet is an impressive 42% thinner.
The 9.4 inch screen with 1280×800 resolution display will remain the same, but Sony is expected to offer a 64GB device for the first time.
Perhaps the most interesting detail from the leak is the proposed keyboard cover, a Microsoft Surface-style addition that will available to purchase as an extra.
Rumours abound that Sony will debut the Xperia Sony Tablet at the IFA trade show in Berlin at the end of the month, meaning we could get our hands on it before the end of the year.
