Xbox 720 vs PS4 – which will come first?

We may not even be half way through 2012 just yet, but the majority of gamers are already looking forward to next year.

Of course, this year will be a big one for the gaming industry. We’ve already had the excellent PS Vita – the latest handheld from gaming giant Sony.

But while this year will be full of exciting new titles, it’s all very much current-generation. After more than five years of this generation of gaming, we’re more than ready for the next level.

That’s not to take anything away from Nintendo, which is readying its next console – the Nintendo Wii U – for release in time for Christmas this year.

Nintendo Wii U due for release this year

The Wii U looks set to be a very impressive gaming device, and the gaming giant’s use of the touchscreen controller will be very interesting.

But for hardcore gamers, Nintendo consoles are never going to deliver enough content and titles to justify the price tag.

Instead, it’s all about the next generation of Xbox and Playstation. We’ve been getting dribs and drabs of detail about what the consoles will be capable of, but which one will we actually see first?

Xbox vs Playstation

We know we won’t be seeing these next-gen consoles for a while still, with a first look rumoured to be at E3 next year.

But the latest reports suggest that Sony is planning something of a coup, and is trying to get ahead of gaming rival Microsoft.

An ‘inside source’ has told tech website VG247 that Sony is keen to be first to the market this time around, to get a head start in the sales race.

“Sony are completely in the belief that they have the jump on Microsoft this time,” the source told VG247. “You should be watching the timing of next year’s E3 keynotes, and who’s going to go first.”
