With rumours of the iPad 3 setting the tech world alight, users of the TomTom app on Apple’s iPhone and iPad are about to get more for their money.
The TomTom v1.10 app for iPhone and iPad has been unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, with a focus on social media integration.
TomTom is using CES to showcase several new products and features, and earlier we reported on the technology coming to the Samsung Wave 3.
But that is not the only smartphone that TomTom has a presence on. The satnav app for Apple’s iOS operating system is a hugely popular piece of software.

It gives iPhone and iPad users up-to-date maps without the need for a mobile signal or internet connection, and quick routes through traffic congestion.
Other features of the app include turn-by-turn guidance while on the phone, using iOS Multitasking Support, and integration with contacts, photos, music, email and calendar.
But now TomTom want people to use the app for more than driving to the shops or finding that tricky location. The TomTom v1.10 app has been given a social media makeover.
The new app will use social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter as a source of turn-by-turn navigation.
Can’t find the location of that party you’re supposed to be attending? The TomTom app will find it for you, using data from the likes of Facebook and Twitter to plan a route.
You will also be able to use the app to share your destination and arrival time on Facebook or Twitter, or by email or SMS.
“According to recent studies, the vast majority of iPhone users use Facebook on their iPhone” said Corinne Vigreux, Managing Director Consumer at TomTom.
“By integrating Facebook features into our TomTom App we make navigating to places, events and seeing friends even easier.”
