Twitter celebrated its sixth birthday this week, marking six years since the social network was activated with a simple five letter tweet.
Co-founder Jack Dorsey started Twitter’s success story with the immortal words ‘Just setting up my twtter’. Who knew it would be the start of something so huge?
Twitter has not enjoyed quite the same success as rival Facebook, but it arrived late to the game. Facebook was already going strong in 2006, Twitter was just starting.
But that has not held it back. In just six years the social network has seen more than 532 million accounts set up and literally trillions of tweets sent around the world.
Part of Twitter’s success, a fairly large part, is down to the celebrity enthusiasm for the social network. Celebrities are vain, insecure attention seekers – it’s no wonder they love Twitter so much.
