Toshiba Increase Wimax Enabled Laptop Range

Catering to the growing demand for Wimax services worldwide, Toshiba has just announced they have added 4G Wimax capability to their Portégé R700 laptop range. Find out more about Wimax and why it could be the future for how we access the internet in the years to come.

The world’s lightest 13.3-inch full-performance ultraportable laptop will soon be available with Wimax capability.

What is Wimax?

Wimax stands for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access and, similar to WiFi, is another way of connecting to the internet by providing fixed and wireless access.

Availability is expanding across the US in major cities that include: Cincinnati, Cleveland, Denver, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, Minneapolis and New York.

While in the UK, Wimax is available in central London via a company called Urban Wimax, as well as in Milton Keynes thanks to a local council initiative to make the town Wimax capable. It is likely to be rolled out across the country in the coming years, too.

Fans of Wimax argue that the connection is better and faster – a major advantage when uploading and downloading large files, as well as using high-bandwidth applications like videoconferencing and VoIP.

By including Wimax capability to their new laptops, Toshiba Portégé R700 users will be able to access the internet anywhere where there is a signal, no dongles, WiFi passwords or anything else to remember.

The Toshiba Portégé R700

Weighing next to nothing and just one inch thin, the Portégé R700 is a great laptop for when you are out and about in between meetings.

It supports the latest Intel Core family of full-powered processors and a wealth of features and ports required by business users, including the ability to dock to a port replicator, an ExpressCard slot, an eSATA/USB combo port with Sleep-and-Charge, as well as a built-in DVD SuperMulti drive and Webcam.

The Portégé R700 Toshiba laptop range is priced from around £1,500, but if you are looking for a more affordable laptop for business or pleasure, Toshiba laptops are available from just £250.
