Top Eco-friendly Cleaning Products

Most of us are guilty of having some form of liquid cleaning products in our cupboards – out of reach of children, but we recognise them as a being potentially dangerous. Moreover, we often don’t consider what the residues left on surfaces are doing to us (and our children) or the risks to us when carrying out our cleaning duties.

Fragrances are often added to cleaning products and they are not always what they appear to be, sometimes causing irritations to our bodies.

Some examples of these are found in common household products, such as:

  • Glass cleaners which may contain Isopropyl alcohol which can irritate the skin, eyes, nose and throat, and ammonia which can irritate the skin and eyes and cause coughing, wheezing and shortness of breath.
  • All-purpose cleaners which may contain 2-butoxyethanol which can cause headaches, dizziness, lightheadedness and confusion, in addition to irritating the eyes, nose, throat and mouth.
  • Bathroom cleaners which may contain Sodium hypochlorite/chlorine which can severely irritate the skin; may cause eye damage, coughing or shortness of breath.
