Sony Xperia U – what you need to know

Mobile World Congress is now just a matter of days away, and the tech world is gearing up for a look at some great smartphones and tablets for the year ahead.

Manufacturers are set to unveil the handsets they will be releasing into the market, with some very impressive devices expected to make an appearance.

One manufacturer we’re all looking forward to seeing is Sony, as it readies the next instalments in its Xperia series – the Xperia U and Xperia P.

The dual-core Xperia S – Sony’s flagship Android phone – got an unveiling at CES last month, and the next two devices are set to be just as impressive.

And in true tech world fashion, some leaked images of the Xperia U have started doing the rounds on the internet. So what do you need to know about it?

Sony Xperia U operating system

The Xperia S was Sony’s first Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich smartphone, and the leaked images suggest we’ll see the same on the Xperia U.

Sony Xperia U specs

We’ve had little in the way of detail from Sony regarding the Xperia U’s specs, but rumours abound that they will be largely in line with the Xperia S.

The Xperia U is set to be a more affordable version of the S, so expect to see a 1GHz dual-core processor under the bonnet. There will also be a 3.5 inch WGVA display, delivering a 480 x 854 resolution.

Sony Xperia U camera

One of the more concrete details that we’ve had about the Xperia U is its camera. We’re expecting to see a 5MP camera – way below the 12MP beast found on the Xperia S.

Sony Xperia U price

This is very much a mid-range smartphone, hence the lower specs. So we can expect a price tag much lower than the £400 the Xperia S will set you back.
