When it comes to tablets, the word Sony isn’t really the first to come to mind. But with a successor to the decent Sony Tablet S in the pipeline, all that could be about to change.
The rumours surrounding the Sony Xperia Tablet have building for some time now, and the latest leaks are adding fuel to the flames.
Giving us some juicy details of what to expect in terms of design, specs and features, the leaks have got us all rather excited. But even more importantly, it looks like a time and place for the tablet’s launch is all but confirmed.
Sony Xperia Tablet launch
We’ve been counting down the days until IFA 2012 in Berlin later this month, and it now seem that we’ve got yet another reason to be excited.
The latest press images for the Xperia Tablet indicate waht we’d all hoped, that the device will get a launch at IFA 2012 in a couple of weeks.
There is no confirmation of this, of course, and the press images may turn out to be a hilarious prank, but they seem fairly legit. We’re never one to count our chickens, but we’d be surprised if the Xperia Tablet was a no-show.
Sony Xperia Tablet specs
According to reports, the Xperia Tablet will boast a 9.4 inch touch screen with a 1280 x 800 display, as well as a quad-core Tegra 3 processor.
We should also see an 8MP rear-facing camera as well as a 1MP front-facing camera to include video calling. This is in addition to a 6,000 mAh battery, which is expected to supply roughly 10 hours of Wi-Fi browsing, and a nifty docking station with integrated speakers.
Images of the home screen suggest that the Xperia Tablet will run on the current Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS, though an upgrade to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean can’t be ruled out.
