A new smart technology washing machine from LG Electronics promises to be a real time-saver for busy households: you can control it via your phone!
With today’s busy lives it can be extremely difficult to find time to do household tasks like washing clothes. And when you do finally get the time to put a load of washing on, sometimes it is all too easy to forget to dry them or you can leave them in the washing machine too long once wash, so you need to wash them again. It’s a common problem for busy households.
Well imagine another scenario: you put a load of washing on before heading out to work. A couple of hours later you look at your smartphone and a couple of clicks later you’ve set the dryer function remotely for your washing machine. When you get home all you have to do is take the clothes out of the machine and put them away, job done.
LG Electronics are in the process of developing for market a range of smart technology household appliances and a smart washing machine is one of them (alongside a smart fridge). The devices are part of LG’s smart technology range, called THINQ, which was launched this year at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.
The new smart washing machine comes with Smart Access which allows users to monitor and control the LG smart washing machine on their mobile devices. Using a smartphone or tablet, customers can adjust the washer’s cycle or start the drying function remotely.
As well as delivering optimal washing performance with minimal energy use, LG’s smart washing machine also comes with a Smart Diagnosis function, too.
What this means is that instead of calling out a repair man or plumber, should a problem arise, all owners need to do is dial the call centre and push the diagnosis button on the machine. In theory the service centre staff will be able to identify what the problem might be by listening to the tones from the washing machine.
“The home appliance industry will in the very near future shift from being mere white goods to high-tech appliances with a range of intelligent functions. With the commercial launch of our smart fridge, we are taking the lead in this transformation,” said Young-ha Lee, President and CEO of LG Home Appliance Company.
“By the end of the year, when our full range is introduced, consumers will be able to stay in contact with their appliances at any time, enjoying greater convenience and seeing real-life, real-time improvements in energy consumption and time savings.”
LG’s smart refrigerators will be available in Korea in April and will be rolled out to other countries in the second half of 2011. While the smart washing machine and other smart appliances are planned to launch later this year.
