Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy S3 Mini at a press event in Germany, as it attempts to tackle the mid-range smartphone market.
Of course, the iPhone 5 and S3 Mini are at different points in the smartphone spectrum. But if you’re struggling to decide which one to go for, here’s how the two compare.
Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini
The official specs for the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini, are largely in line with the rumours that have been doing the rounds of late.
The device features a 4-inch WVGA Super AMOLED display with a 480×800 pixel resolution and runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, powered by a dual core 1GHz processor under the bonnet.
The Galaxy S3 Mini also comes with either 8GB or 16GB internal storage capacity, as well as a 5MP camera and 1500mAh battery.
Apple iPhone 5
Like the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini, the iPhone 5 also features a 4-inch screen, but definitely trumps it in the screen resolution stakes.
The Retina display gives it an impressive 1136×640 resolution, with a pixel density of 326ppi. The iPhone obviously also trumps the S3 Mini in a number of other areas.
The iPhone 5 features an 8MP camera, trumping the 5MP offered by the Galaxy S3 Mini, as well as a more powerful processor at 1.2GHz and a far higher storage capacity.
When it comes to operating systems, it really comes down to a matter of personal preference.
Apple’s iOS has always won out in terms of aesthetics and usability, but iOS6 has come under heavy fire of late and Jelly Bean is the best-looking and most functional Android OS yet.
If the S3 Mini was like its big brother in more than just name, then we might have a contest on our hands. As it stands though, the iPhone 5 is clearly the better device.
But if the price is right, the S3 Mini could be yet another Samsung success story. What do you all think? Let us know in the comments section below!
