Samsung has announced that the new business-focused Galaxy S Duos Android smartphone will launch in Europe next month.
The dual-sim smartphone will allow users to manage work and personal calls as well as email accounts and social networks from one device and the ‘Dual-Sim Always on’ feature on the Duos allows calls one number to be received while taking calls from the other.
Samsung has made previous attempts to corner a share of the ‘bring your own device’ (BYOD) market with the launch of Galaxy Y Duos handset.
Samsung Galaxy S Duos specs
Galaxy S Duos will run on the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS and be powered by a 1GHz single-core processor. This may mean that device lags behind some other models which feature dual or quad core processors.
The new Galaxy features a 4-inch 480×800 touchscreen as well as a 5MP rear-facing camera with LED flash.
Crucially the smartphone has a microSD card slot allowing for flexible storage, meaning that the 4GB of internal storage can expand up to 32GB. The device also features a 1500mAh battery and uses Samsung’s Touchwiz user interface (UI).
Samsung Galaxy S Duos price
Although a UK price point for the model has yet to be announced, estimates – based on the pricing of the Y Duos – have suggested that the Galaxy S Duos could be priced between £180 and £250. Samsung have said:
“The GALAXY S DUOS offers all the style and high-end performance users expect from GALAXY smartphones. It also affords the convenience of Dual SIM access, giving the smartphone added communication flexibility,”
With a design that is nearly identical to the hugely popular Galaxy S3, the device offers a cheap, dual SIM alternative to the firm’s flagship model.
The Galaxy S3 has recently featured high up on the list of several benchmarking surveys and the Galaxy S Duos will no doubt follow in its footsteps.
