Samsung Galaxy Nexus suffers volume bug

The long-awaited, much-hyped Samsung Galaxy Nexus is suffering from sound volume issues, Google and Samsung have confirmed.

The Galaxy Nexus, which went on sale in the UK last week, is the first phone to use Google’s Android 4.0 operating system, otherwise known as Ice Cream Sandwich.

Within days of the smartphone’s release, users were complaining of problems with the device’s volume control.

Galaxy Nexus Volumegate

In what has already been melodramatically dubbed ‘volumegate’, the bug makes the volume on the phone drop randomly, for no apparent reason.

The bug seems unrelated to the wireless network used, with users having problems on 2G, 3G and wi-fi connections, or when the phone wasn’t connected at all.

But fear not Galaxy Nexus users, Samsung and Google have reportedly already sorted the problem. In a statement released yesterday, Samsung said: “Regarding the Galaxy Nexus, we are aware of the volume issue and have developed a fix. We will update devices as soon as possible.”

Apple rivalry

Apple will be pleased to see they are not the only ones having problems, and their closest rivals are having to deal with bugs.

Earlier this month, Apple’s new operating system iOS 5 was plagued by a bug that drained battery life on the iPhone 4S.

Apple released a software patch to fix the problem but whether this has actually helped remains to be seen.
