Design & Features
The first thing that took my eye was the lovely big 2.8-inch LED backlit touchscreen with 400 x 200 resolution on the front. This model is available with either a black or white surround.
Navigating around the menus, I was amazed at the quality of the screen, how fast and responsive it felt and the options available.
The A864 also has manual buttons in addition to the touchscreen including a home button on the front which doubles as a power on/off key, volume controls, hold button, forward, rewind, pause and playback, which are all found on the side of the device.
When it came to navigating through the menus and options, it was all pretty straight forward and user friendly. Options include: SenseMe (which analyses the tempo and dynamics of each track to split them into relative groups), FM radio, voice recording, photo viewer, music player, video viewer, playlists, podcast lists, and bluetooth settings (to pair wireless headphones), mains settings and quick playback to name a few.
Sound
A novelty feature that I loved was the karaoke mode, which displays the lyrics of the songs on the screen during playback!
Sound quality is impressive thanks to the 5 graphic equaliser modes, providing a fantastic range of sounds and tones to ensure top quality entertainment.. This is paired with a super set of sound isolating headphones providing a perfect pitch and range of sounds from bassy notes all the way through to treble notes.
Video
Video playback was crystal clear and the colours displayed on the screen were sharp, vivid and in my option, pretty impressive.
Adding Files
Another bonus with this music player is the freedom to add music and videos from your PC without the need for any software such as iTunes. All I needed to do was to plug it in to my computer and drag and drop any of the files that I wanted!
Storage
For reference, this model can store a range of files in different formats, including AVI, DivX, MPEG4 and JPEG. With 8GB of storage, there’s plenty of space for all your music, videos and photos to take with you on the go!

Verdict
The Sony Walkman NWZ-A864 is a super sleek, fun and easy to use MP3 player that is fantastic for portability, great for sound and video quality and it certainly puts up a good fight amongst other music players on the market.
