Record Breaking Apple Sales and Our Top iOS 5 Apps

Since Apple launched its latest iOS 5 operating system last week for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, it’s been downloaded in its millions.

But as well as adding more than 200 new features to the mobile devices, iOS 5 also brings with it apps that were designed specifically to take advantage of the new software and technology.

Apple last night also revealed its latest financial results, with record sales of Mac computers and iPads.

The results, for the quarter to the end of September, show Apple sold 17.07m iPhones in that three months, a 21% increase on the previous year’s same quarter.

It also shifted 11.12 million iPads, a 166% unit increase over the year-ago quarter along with 4.89 million Macs, a 26% increase.

There was also 6.62 million iPods sold, which represented a 27% decline from the same period in 2010. That’s a shame and should be a different story in this current quarter period with a price-drop for the iPod touch and new features for the iPod nano. Apple CEO Tim Cook said: “We have strong momentum going into the holiday season, and we remain really enthusiastic about our product pipeline.”
