PES 2013 – what do we know so far?

Pro Evolution Soccer, the hugely successful football game from Konami, is being prepared for its next instalment later this year.

The debate over whether PES or FIFA is the football game to own has been raging on for years. Some years FIFA seems to be the victor, other years it is PES that earns most of the praise.

We’ve been in the gaming world for long enough to know not to wade into the debate. Things can get pretty heated, so we’re staying diplomatic.

There’s been little news on FIFA 2013 as yet, but the next PES is shaping up to take the series to the next level.

PES 2013 trailer

The trailer for the next PES has just been unleashed on to the internet, and shows Christiano Ronaldo (well, a computerised version) sprinting along a pitch before striking a ball.

It is a typically vague trailer, but does tell us something about the upcoming title. This time around, the emphasis is on individual players’ movements – making them as true-to-life as possible.

So expect players to be more lifelike than ever, with realist running motions and styles of play. Not only that, but the new PES FullControl system will give gamers even more control over how they receive, pass and shoot the ball.

Exciting time for PES

“This is an exciting time to be part of the PES community, and PES 2013 marks a new level of playability with the return to our key ethos of utter control and freedom,” said Jon Murphy, European PES team leader.

“Football is all about making magic happen with skill and precision, and PES 2013 truly encapsulates this. Fresh faces within the development team and some very exciting ideas will breathe new life into the PES series, and we look forward to showing what we can do in the coming months.”

We couldn’t possibly say whether or not this PES will be better than FIFA 2013, but we do know one thing – it’s going to be pretty hard to beat.
