Nintendo Wii U: Rumours Round-up

There are many great things to look forward to over the next 12 months. But for gamers, it looks like it will be an extra-special year.

First up this year there’s the PS Vita – Sony’s latest handheld console, which is released in February. Then we have some awesome new games to look forward to, such as the eagerly anticipated GTA 5.

We may even see the Xbox 720 before the year is out, but this is such a tantalising prospect that we don’t even want to think about it for fear of jinxing it.

So let’s focus on another console that has a more likely 2012 release – the Nintendo Wii U. We’ve been given the odd bit of detail from Nintendo since the Wii U’s unveiling at E3 last year, so what can we expect? Here are some of the Wii U rumours doing the rounds.

Nintendo Wii U more powerful than Xbox?

We are on the cusp of the next generation of consoles, and it is Nintendo who looks like leading the charge.

Rumours are now circulating that the Wii U will be twice as powerful as the Xbox 360. We can believe this, given that it will be the first of the next-gen consoles.

Nintendo Wii U release date?

The Wii U got a brief and wholly unsatisfactory airing at E3 last year, so this year we can expect a fully fledged launch.

And with Sony and Microsoft gearing up for a possible 2013 release date for their next consoles, Nintendo will be keen to roll out the Wii U before Christmas.

Nintendo Wii U price?

Of course, we’ve had no confirmation of a price for the Wii U just yet. But rumours abound that we’ll be seeing a pretty hefty price tag for it.

There was talk of a $250 US cost, but with the Wii U’s high-tech controller this seems unlikely. A far more realistic figure is around the $600 mark, which would give us a UK price of about £400.
