The snaps appear to confirm rumours that the handset will be slimmer, longer and roughly the same width as its predecessor, the iPhone 4S.
GottaBeMobile claims the pics were leaked by an anonymous Chinese source.
According to the images, the iPhone 5’s camera will be located on the top-left back of the device – as is the case with the 4S – and there will also be a rear-facing microphone placed between the snapper and flash.
GottaBeMobile claims this will help with noise reduction which will, in turn, improve call quality.
In addition, the site claims the images prove the blower could come sporting a liquid metal back, a rumour that has long been doing the rounds in the iPhone 5 gossip circuit.
Previous reports have suggested that Apple will opt for a larger display for its next iPhone so that it can compete with larger Android-based devices, such as the Samsung Galaxy S3.
However, it’s believed Apple’s rumoured blower will still be dwarfed by the South Korean giant’s flagship handset.
The images have emerged just days following rumours that Apple’s main battery supplier is struggling to deliver enough energy packs that meet the Cupertino company’s strict standards.
As expected, Apple has kept hush about its reported upcoming handset, which is believed to landing later this year. It’s also rumoured that the sixth-generation iPhone will sport Apple’s latest mobile operating system iOS 6.
Users have already taken to online forums to discuss possible features the handset could offer, with most in favour of a larger screen and a sleek metal back, as opposed to the glass one found on the current iPhone 4S.
iPhone 5 Rumours
With the Apple iPhone 5 rumour mill having churned out a number of tantalising reports in recent weeks, it is widely expected that Apple’s iPhone 4S follow-on will land later this year running the WWDC 2012 unveiled iOS 6 mobile operating system.
Despite Apple remaining positively cagey on the matter, a number of reports have suggested the iPhone 5 release will follow the cycle of its 4S predecessor with an expected late September unveiling to be followed by release across the leading global markets including the UK and US less than two weeks later.
Although far from confirmed, it is believed that the Q3 iPhone 5 launch could see the next-generation handset unveiled alongside the claimed 7.85-inch Apple iPad mini and the heavily rumoured Apple iTV, the Cupertino company’s first television set.
Further Apple iPhone 5 rumours have suggested the eagerly awaited device will see Apple launch a handset will a completely revamped, more slimline design with the company’s classic 30-pin dock connector making way for a new, thinner, 19-pin offering.
Elsewhere, a larger, 4-inch display is hotly tipped to replace the previously standard 3.5-inch offering with the upcoming iPhone evolution also expected to play host to a Galaxy S3 rivalling quad-core processor and the standard improved camera optics.
