Jawbone’s Big Jambox wireless portable speaker – what you need to know

The latest innovation by Jawbone is its Big Jambox, which is yet another addition to its range of portable wireless speakers.

These speakers aim to deliver rich and powerful sounds experiences both inside and outside a building.

Big Jambox is reminiscent of Jawbone’s best-selling Jambox speaker. It allows users to stream anything from phone calls, movies, games and high quality music via computers, tablets and smartphones that have a Bluetooth connection.

“Jambox was the first wireless speaker to bring stunning audio quality to the music, movies and games normally trapped between earbuds on mobile devices,”

Said Hosain Rahman, CEO of Jawbone who added:

“With Big Jambox, we utilized state-of-the-art audio technology to fill a much larger space with amazing sound without sacrificing portability.”

The size of the Big Jambox itself is miniscule when compared to the loud sound it produces. Thanks to its equalisation technology and digital signal processing it delivers decent sounds at any volume both inside and out.

The Big Jambox will continue to emit sound for up to 15 hours and offer 500 hours of standby time before its built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery requires a recharge.

Big Jambox offers more than just music; it’s also equipped with a Type-1 compliant speakerphone which is fitted with a multi-directional microphone for 360-degree sound input.

The newly-designed microphone has improved echo-cancellation as well as full duplex communication for clear calls from the home or office.

Yves Behar, chief creative officer for Jawbone said:

“We designed Big Jambox to be artful and fit perfectly with how people live.”

“Every element goes back to the purest expression of simplicity, performance and elegance – its compact size, the unique sound you hear when it’s turned on, the colours and the wrapped patterned steel grill. Well-designed products don’t sacrifice form or function.”

There is also a social element to Big Jambox, as it allows friends and family to share DJ status thanks to the multipoint Bluetooth connectivity which can connect to tablets or smartphones. If this sounds like your kind of product, you can pick up the Big Jambox in three different colours for around £260.
