February is here, and that means just one thing in the world of technology: it’s nearly time for Mobile World Congress.
Held in Barcelona, MWC is known for showcasing some of the best upcoming smartphones for the year ahead.
CES is still the place to see some of the most innovative consumer technology that the industry has to offer. But when it comes to smartphones, MWC will always reign supreme.
The lack of Samsung Galaxy S3 presence will surely be felt, but that won’t stop us from getting very excited about the other devices MWC has to offer. So what are most exciting smartphones to expect this year?
A very exciting prospect, HTC looks set to unveil the Edge at MWC this year. And if the rumours are to be believed, it will be a very decent smartphone.
Likely to feature a Tegra 3 processor, the Edge will be one of the first phones to come with a quad-core CPU under the bonnet.
This good-looking phone got a showing at CES last month, but Asus is waiting for MWC to really show off this smartphone-cum-tablet.
For those of you looking for something a little different in a phone, the PadFone is the one for you. It looks super stylish – basically a mini tablet.
Set to run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, we could be seeing the quad-core Tegra 3 processor in the PadFone too, but no confirmation of that just yet.
Sony Xperia U
Sony’s first MWC since its amicable divorce from Eriksson, the tech company is likely to unveil a couple more phones in the Xperia range.
The Xperia S was unveiled at CES last month, and it looks like we’ll see the Xperia U in Barcelona. It looks like a very similar model to the Xperia S, but with a small screen with an even smaller resolution – 480 x 854.
