How to Find the Most Hygienic Fridge Freezer

If you didn’t know already, this week is Food Safety Week. Find out what is the best new fridge freezer for hygiene now.

Did you know that there about a million cases of food poisoning every year in the UK? As the German eColi outbreak shows, poor food hygiene can be very bad for your health.

This year, Food Safety Week is focusing on good hygiene in the home, which will help stop the spread of harmful bacteria. There’s no denying that we are more aware of food hygiene today that any time in our past, but most of us have at some point or other thrown caution to the wind and risked food hygiene.

A survey by the Food Standards Agency found that 57 per cent of us believe that we can tell if food is safe to eat just by its appearance or smell. This is wrong. 66 per cent of us also believe that plastic chopping boards are more hygienic than wooden ones, when the truth is that wooden chopping boards are more hygienic.

More than a third (37%) of people questioned also thought that ‘use by’ dates are put on food packaging to encourage shoppers to throw it out so they have to buy more. A ‘use by date’ is a requirement by law, but other dates such as ‘best before’ and ‘sell by’ dates, relate to the food’s quality rather than its safety.

One of the areas – particularly in the warmer months – that you need to think about when it comes to food hygiene is keeping perishable food stuffs cold and fresh. So what best to achieve this? A new fridge of course.

And if you are looking to buy a new fridge freezer that really does protect your food and your family, the new range of Pansonic fridge freezers are really great.

Panasonic Fridge Freezers

Panasonic’s new range of fridge-freezers are some of the most hygiene friendly fridge-freezers around.

The Panasonic Hygiene Active system is also used in a combination of technologies to protect food from contact with harmful bacteria.

The Hygiene Active SILVER Filter

Did you know that silver is known for its antibacterial qualities? Pansonic do, which is why the filter in Panasonic refrigerators is coated with silver and when it’s combined with water vapour and blue LED light it forms a natural cleanser called ‘hydroxyl radical’. This naturally occurring cleanser eliminates 99.9999% of harmful bacteria.

In addition, a circulating fan constantly pulls air in from the main compartment filtering it for bacteria and returning clean, fresh air back into the refrigerator.

And while all the hygienic protection elements are great for keeping nasty bugs at bay, Panasonic also claim that with their new fridges they can keep your fruit and vegetables fresher for longer, too.

Standard fridges are typically too dry for storing fruit and vegetables and fruit and vegetables typically lose their vitamins when stored in the dark. But thanks to the addition of a Vitamin-Safe compartment, which is a separate 46 litre compartment with an optimum humidity level of 95%, there is an independent temperature control to help keep fruit and vegetables fresh for longer.

And for that fresh forever taste, Panasonic has even installed two flashing LEDs to simulate sunlight, helping fresh produce to retain their vitamins for longer.
