How To Connect Your Wii To A Wireless Network

In this day and age, half the joy of console gaming is the availability of online play.

To do this you can either plug in a network cable (although on the Wii you’ll need a separate adapter), or use the inbuilt wireless adapter to connect to your home router. This guide will show you how you connect up your Wii using the inbuilt wireless.

1. From the Wii menu select the “Wii” button in the bottom left hand corner of the screen.

2. Choose the “System settings” option from the next menu.

3. Use the arrows to scroll through the menu until you get to the “Internet” option, which you then select. Select “Wireless Connection” as the method of connection.

4. Click on “Search for an access point”.

5. Select your network from the list that appears.

6. It will then ask you to put in your network key, which is often printed on the router somewhere. If you are not sure of your network key contact your internet service provider for assistance in retrieving it.

7. The Wii will then test your internet connection and tell you if it’s successful or not. If not, then call your internet service provider to check there aren’t any other settings you may need to change.

Hopefully, this will have successfully connected your Wii up to the internet. Now you can visit the Wii shop channel and download virtual console games, new channels and exclusive Wii content. It will also allow you to play games online, if online play is available.

As mentioned before, you can purchase an adapter to connect your Wii to the internet with an Ethernet cable, (it’s best to get the official Nintendo network adapter for this). From here, it is just a case of plugging it into the USB port on the back of the Wii. You then select “Wired connection” in the options above.
