Halo 4 trailer at E3 – what you need to know

The Wii U, Nintendo’s upcoming console, may be dominating the E3 headlines at the moment, but there is plenty more to be seen at the LA games expo.

We may not be getting a new console from the likes of Sony or Microsoft, but the manufacturers have still been a big draw at the event.

Microsoft has held its annual conference at the event, and showcased several exciting developments we can look forward to.

One of the most interesting was Xbox SmartGlass, a “companion app” for Windows 8 devices. In what is surely a sign of things to come for all technology, SmartGlass is designed to bring all your devices together to work in perfect harmony.

So if you start watching a film on your tablet, SmartGlass will let you transfer that film to your TV with the click of a button.

It is an exciting prospect, but for the gamers there was only one thing worth watching – the gameplay trailer for Halo 4.

Combining live action footage and in-game visuals, this behemoth of a trailer wowed crowds and stole the show. So what do we now know about this hugely anticipated title?

Halo 4 storyline

As well as getting a sneak peek at the new-look Covenant, not to mention the Forerunners, we also got more details on the plot to expect in Halo 4.

It looks as though Master Chief will be stranded on the Forerunner planet with some other humans – the surviving members of exploration vessel UNSC Infinity.

Halo 4 characters

Obviously, Master Chief is back with a vengeance, helped by his old friend Cortana. But it looks as though the relationship between him and his handy AI will be explored further.

We got some details about the mysterious Cortana in Halo Reach, and this will be looked at in more depth in the upcoming title.

Halo 4 release

Just as important as any plot details or character changes is when the hugely anticipated title is actually due for release.

We knew it would be in time for Christmas, and Microsoft has confirmed that it will be released exclusively on Xbox on 6 November. So start counting those days now!
