Just days after its August 28th launch, Guild Wars 2 has taken poll position in both the UK individual formats chart and the multiformat charts (as of 1st of September), leading some in the gaming community to dub it the new World of Warcraft.
The PC game has leaped ahead of titles such as Sleeping Dogs (360), New Super Mario Bros 2 (3DS) and Darksiders II (360).
According to the creators of the game, Guild Wars 2 defines the future of online role-playing games by delivering:
“action-oriented combat, customised personal storylines, epic dynamic events, world-class PvP, and no subscription fees!”
Guild Wars 2: The features that put it in pole position
Guild Wars 2 offers gamers the chance to experience Player vs. Player matches, where small teams of players fight it out over maps packed with objectives. In addition, World vs. World play sees hundreds of players from competing servers battle it out across four sprawling maps.
Users will get the chance to move, dodge and roll away from enemy blows as part of the game’s “high-impact, fast-paced combat”. Players can also team up with others to become kings of the battlefield using a number of environmental weapons.
Guild Wars 2: Putting choice back in to the hands of gamers
Guild Wars 2 allows each player to have a unique gaming experience, with gamers selecting options such as profession and biography that have a bearing on a specific character’s history and personality.
The choice of character will also have a bearing on players’ individual stories and skills and also influence the abilities and weapons they will have access to.
Gamers’ stories are chronicled in private, character-specific chapters and players can also choose to invite friends to share in their personal story, in the form of “guest stars” that can support players in making key decisions.
