It may still be more than a month away, but we’re getting pretty excited about Gamescom 2012 already. Playing host to some of the biggest names in the gaming world, Gamescom is set to be bigger and better than ever this year.
Taking place in Cologne, Germany, from 15 to 19 August, Gamescom is just around the corner. So what can we expect from the event this year?
Super slim Playstation PS3
Rumours abound that we’ll see a super-slim version of the Playstation 3 at this year’s event, so don’t rush out and buy a PS3 Slim just yet!
Although details of the model have yet to be released details, reports suggest that we could see a slimmer model with a solid state hard drive. The current slimmed down version is roughly a third of size of the original PS3, and was unveiled at the 2009 Gamescom event.
GTA 5
Grand Theft Auto 5 is also set to be launched at Gamescom, after a clip of the game was included in a promotional video for the event.
Although little has been revealed about the content of the latest game details on Rockstar’s website reveal that the game is in development and that GTA V will be the ‘largest and most ambitious game Rockstar has yet created’.
The game will be set in Los Santos and the surrounding hills, countryside and beaches, and will feature a combination of mission-based gameplay, online multiplayer and storytelling.
World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria
Games maker Blizzard has confirmed that WoW Mists Of Pandaria and StarCraft 2 Heart of the Swarm will be shown at Gamescom.
Visitors to the event will get the chance to play a hands-on demo of Mists of Pandaria, enabling them to play as the monk, the game’s newest class. The game will focus on WoW’s Horde and Alliance faction’s conflicting attempts to take charge of a new continent.
For StarCraft 2′s Heart of the Swarm, players will get the chance to try out new units for zerg, protoss and terran factions.
