GTA 5: More details on release and pre-order dates

Gamers eagerly awaiting the release of the latest instalment in the Grand Theft Auto series, GTA 5, can start placing pre-orders for the title from 5 November.

Rockstar Games also confirmed that we can “expect a host of new information” about the game next month.

Screen stills of the game, and the official trailer, have revealed that the game is going to be filled with high-octane action, brand new mini-games and some dazzling graphics. Here’s the latest on the forthcoming title.

GTA 5 release date

It was largely expected that GTA would be released at some point in spring 2013, but news that the game’s publisher has lowered its revenue forecasts for the current financial year appears to have narrowed down this window.

The current financial year ends on 31 March 2013, and the fact that Take Two has lowered predictions for this period (from around $1.70 billion to around $1.20 billion) points to the fact that GTA 5, as one of its biggest releases, will be launched after this date.

Echoing this idea, outspoken analyst Michael Pachter said:

“Spring is March 20 – June 20, so I would say that the ‘spring 2013′ launch means the June quarter and not the March quarter.”

This should put GTA 5’s release date in the 11-week window between 1 April 2013 and 20 June 2013. The fact that Rockstar has launched its last three games in May would fit in with this idea.

GTA 5: Will it be a hit?

Rockstar has said that GTA 5 is:

“largest and most ambitious” game that it has ever created and promises that it will deliver “a bold new direction in open-world freedom, storytelling, mission-based gameplay and online multiplayer”.

If it delivers on all these points, and we don’t doubt it will, GTA 5 could take the already successful series to even greater heights.
