Everything you need to know about the Sony Tablet S and Sony Tablet P

Tech giants Sony have confirmed that their latest tablet offerings will be available in Europe from the end of September.

By the end of this month, gadget fans will be able to get their hands on the new Sony Tablet S and November will see the launch of the Sony Tablet P. This marks Sony’s first steps into the tablet market and they’re not making them lightly as the impressive new tablets look set to take on other heavyweight tab champs.

Sony Tablet S

The 9.4 inch Sony Tablet S has been created for “rich media entertainment” and with a powerful NVIDIA Tegra 2 mobile processor inside.

Weighing in at around 598g, it is NOT lighter than the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 or the BlackBerry Playbook. However, like both of those products, it is lighter than the nation’s favorite, the iPad2.

The intuitive tablet has a feature which makes it easier to be held for long periods of time as the device’s weight shifts closer to your palm, making it feel lighter and more comfortable.

The new Android operating Sony Tablet S also comes in 2 storage versions, holding either 16GB or 32GB.

Internet connectivity is across Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi and 3G.

The new tablet has two cameras; a 0.3 megapixel camera on the front, and the impressive HD 5.11 megapixel on the back.

The battery life is the usual 8 hours with web browsing, video watching and music listening. The device also features an SD card slot and a USB 2.O port.

Sony Tablet P

This intriguing new tablet features not one but two touchscreens as it has a folding design for maximum portability. Sony says the P tablet is geared for “mobile communication entertainment”. It features the same 2 mobile processors and offers Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity.

The dual 5.5 inch screens can fold into each other to fit into any pocket. Both screens have different functions much like the Nintendo 3DS. It is the first tablet device that is PlayStation certified, allowing users to play original PlayStation games.

The folding action isn’t just designed for games, Sony believe that flip tablet P will allow users to read books in comfort from any angle.

“Sony Tablet” S is available from the end of September 2011. “Sony Tablet” P is available from November 2011. The exact date of availability varies by country. Prices are yet to be announced.
