Downloading photos from your camera with Windows Vista

This guide shows you how to download photos and tag them so they’re all nice and organised.

If you don’t have it already, Windows Live Photo Gallery is free to download onto your PC.

Once you have the software, this is how you get the piccies off your camera and onto your PC.

1. Plug your camera into your computer using the USB cord.
2. In the AutoPlay widow, click Import pictures and videos.

Photo Gallery then looks for images on your camera. You can group the new photos or movies by date and time, and import them into separate folders. Organising your images as you import them can save you a lot of fuss in the long run. However, if you want to, you can just import them all into one big folder and sort them out later – it’s completely up to you.

3. When you’ve decided where you want your images to go, click Import.

Tags are descriptive words you can add to your photos and videos to make it easier to search for them later. This is how you add tags:

1. In the gallery, click the photo or video you want to tag.
2. In the Info panel that pops up, click Add tags.

You can either type a new tag into the box, or select from a list you’ve already made for other photos and videos.

3. Press ENTER.

Your new tag will now appear in the list for the photo or video.

To add tags to more than one photo or video at the same time, hold down the CTRL key and click all the things you want to tag. Click Add tags, and type in the word or phrase they’ve all got in common.

Make your tags specific. For example, with a location (Seattle), name of a person, or an event (Molly’s birthday party). It’ll make finding your photos later much easier.
