Dieter Rams is a design god.
His work has been the archetype of understated, classy industrial design since his work for Braun in the fifties. His influence is clear in the work of Philippe Starck or Jonathan Ive at Apple – without the style he set with radios and calculators, iPods would be ugly boxes that only a geek could love.
In this interview for Gestalten.tv he talks about going to work for Braun, his principles of design, and the influence he had on the industry. If you own any beautiful, understated gadgets that you are proud to have in your home then you probably have this man to thank.
