Chilingo Contre Jour App
Rating:

Contre Jour is a beautiful puzzler for the iPad and iPhone made by Chillingo (of Angry Birds fame).
The object of the game is to manipulate surfaces so that a small one-eyed character can roll, bounce and be fired around the screen to collect light particles before escaping through a glowing portal.
‘Contre Jour‘ literally translates from the French as ‘against daylight’ and as such describes the graphics of the game, which are essentially monochrome, moody and dark except for the glowing light sources which are blue.
The general feel of the game is fantastically enhanced by both the Tim Burton alike look and feel and the sound stage design. The music is simple and haunting and quite lovely – very similar to the Amelie film soundtrack.
This together with the subtle but anthropomorphic noises the main character emits very quickly bring about a sense of care and love for the game.
In all honesty there is not much to the game play itself. But this is also true of such classic hits as Angry Birds or Fruit Ninja.
Certainly if you are looking for something a little different to show off the graphic and sound capabilities of your iOS device, and also want a new puzzler to play that isn’t violent or complicated you won’t regret purchasing Contre Jour this month.
