All you smartphone users out there are set to be very spoiled in the first half of 2012, with a whole host of new and exciting devices hitting our stores in the next few months.
The past 12 months were some of the best for the smartphone industry. We had a new iPhone (albeit a slightly disappointing one), and a raft of great Android offerings.
So how is 2012 going to shape up? Well, it is looking like a corker. The iPhone 5 is due later in the year, but if Apple’s past release dates are anything to go by then we won’t see it until the second half of 2012.
And for many in the tech world, this is simply too long to wait. So what are the best smartphones that are just around the corner?
BlackBerry Bold 9790
First up, we have the latest in the BlackBerry Bold series – the Bold 9790. This one is actually out now, but on a SIM-free basis – it will be available on contract before the end of the month.
BlackBerry has been struggling of late, and will be hoping the Bold 9790 brings about a change of fortune. This good looking device has a 1GHz processor and 8GB of memory, as well as the latest BlackBerry OS 7.0.
Sony Xperia S
Next in the calendar is Sony’s first non-Ericsson smartphone – the Xperia S, released on 5 March. It is an impressive entry by Sony, featuring a 4.3 inch LED backlit display and bumper 12MP camera.
Inside, the Xperia S packs quite a punch. With a dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, it is set to be one of the fastest phones on the market.
Samsung Galaxy S3
Finally, we have the Samsung Galaxy S3 – expected in early April. We have been given little in the way of details for this exciting smartphone, but we can always speculate.
From what we can tell, this is going to be the smartphone to beat. Running Android 4.0 OS, the Galaxy S3 is likely to have a dual-core processor that could deliver up to an impressive 2GHz.
