Best Sat Nav: New TomTom Start 20 Series Launches

Looking for the best Sat Nav? The new TomTom Start 20 Series promises to combine an attractive design, larger screen sizes and a new operating system for even smarter navigation.

Having already launched a world first – adding none other than Homer Simpson’s voice to their Sat-Nav, TomTom have now just launched a new version of their device, the Start 20 series.

Designed to make driving and route navigation as easy as possible, the new TomTom comes with a choice of two larger screens, 4.3″ (10.9cm) or 5.2″ (13.2cm).

The new design also means that drivers can mount the TomTom to their dashboard with a dashboard mounting disk that then allows them to  automatically rotate the screen 180 degrees. What does this mean exactly? It means you should be able to view the navigation screen far easier than before when you driving.

And if you’ve ever found yourself in a narrow lane somewhere in the countryside many miles from your destination, the new TomTom promises to be better than previous models. TomTom have added two million kilometres of new roads to the maps in the Start 20 series, mercifully, including roads in rural areas, too.

To help you navigate the new TomTom maps include up to twice as many Points of Interest (POI) as before. Extra features to note include advanced lane guidance, which shows which lane to take at junctions so drivers don’t miss a turning.

Another great feature for city centres particularly, is parking assist, which lets drivers navigate to parking near their destination or en route. The spoken street names feature, designed to help drivers keep their eyes on the road, to make turnings even clearer, is also a handy extra.

“New satnav users can benefit from enhanced safety and comfort, all wrapped up in a very stylish, easy-to-use package,” says Corinne Vigreux, Managing Director Consumer at TomTom.

“No other satnav provider offers such good looks and intelligent features in a range that is predominantly aimed at first-time buyers.”

The TomTom Start 20 for the UK/Republic of Ireland maps starts at £129.99.
