A new cosmetics app for Apple products lets you see what make-up looks like on your own face while shopping online!

One of the big gripes many people have about buying clothes and cosmetics online is that you don’t get the chance to try them before you buy.

What it means for many people is that you end up trying them at home after purchase and then either returning them in the post – at a cost to yourself – or burying the offending item at the back of the wardrobe, never to see the light of day again.

Well, thanks to technology and the fact that internet shopping is becoming the way in which most of us buy stuff these days – more and more money is being spent on ways to create that shopping in store experience from the comfort of your Smartphone.

Worldwide the Smartphone market is expected to expand by 55% in 2011 alone. With this in mind EZface has launched a new virtual ‘Try Before You Buy’ cosmetics application for the iPhone and iPad that lets you – as the name suggests – try cosmetics on virtually to your face via your iPad or iPhone.

So how does the technology work?

The new app features the company’s proprietary Virtual Mirror Application (VMA) facial recognition technology, which is already in use in stores across Europe. It basically means that you can virtually apply cosmetics directly onto your own photos.

The virtual mirror promises to give a true depiction of exactly how differing shades and intensities of beauty products, including foundation, lipstick, eyeliner, eye-shadow and mascara will appear on your face.

The technology features sophisticated algorithms to analyze photos and accurately depict, within seconds, how selected cosmetics will look, taking into account skin tone, facial features and hair colour.

“The EZface mobile application turns your iPhone or iPad into a virtual makeup advisor that provides custom looks and helps you explore new make-up styles and trends,” said Ruth Gal, EZface co-founder and Marketing Vice President.

Once finished a shopper can save and share photos with friends via email or social networking sites.

The EZface app for iPhone and iPad is soon to be released on iTunes and an EZface powered app for Android is under development.
