Best Gadgets to enjoy the Rugby World Cup Final on TV

This Rugby World Cup has been all about those early mornings, England players being in the news for reasons other than the rugby and Wales exceeding all expectations to so nearly make Sunday’s Final.

At times it has been brilliant, and at others deeply emotional but sadly there is just one big game left now – and they don’t come much bigger than the Rugby World Cup Final.

What a corker it could be too as New Zealand take on France on home Auckland soil.

Now it is another early start – 8.30am on ITV1 – but if the All Blacks play as they can and France again play boringly like in the match against Wales then there’s surely one winner? Right?

To help you get the most from the match and enjoy all the excitement of the Rugby World Cup, here are some gadgets, apps, websites and, of course, a couple of superb TVs to allow you to celebrate the Final in style.

Planet Rugby website

By far the most comprehensive and non-biased rugby website out there, it features some excellent blogs and is probably the one rugby website in the world where you’ll find as much detailed news, info and opinion on France as you will the All Blacks of New Zealand. There’s also a decent fans’ forum and a gloriously old-fashioned, yet delightful, “Letter of The Week” section.

Samsung PS43D450A2 43” Plasma Television

As with any sporting event, you’ll need a decent TV to watch it on and to make the most of the fast action, you’ll want one with a high Frame Rate. This is 600Hz and perfectly capable of keeping up with every kick, catch, throw and missed penalty.

Haka app for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad

Ever wondered how to do the fancy little war dance the Kiwis do before each game? Want to join in and petrify France through the medium of your TV? Course you do and this 69p app takes you through a step-by-step guide on how to do the New Zealand Haka. It also features video footage of some classic Haka moves.

Breville VST026 Café Style Panini Press

If you’re up early then you’re going to need a hearty breakfast and this toasted sandwich press should get you in the mood for the rugby action by preparing a tasty French-inspired ham and cheese sarnie.

ITV Player website

Can’t be bothered to get out of bed for the game? Well, it is Sunday morning and you deserve a lie-in. It’s not like any home nations are involved. Well, unless your home is in New Zealand or France. Anyway, later in the day just reach for your iPhone, laptop or tablet and head to ITV’s website. The game will also be streamed live on there too via ITV Player if you’re not near a TV that early. You will also be able to find the latest news, a couple of extremely opinionated blogs and competitions on the site too.

Sagemcom DTR 67320T Freeview+ Digital Television Recorder

If you don’t want to wake first thing, or catch-up with the Rugby World Cup Final using ITV Player then this reasonably-priced hard drive recorder has 320GB of storage, enough for 160 hours of your favourite shows. Even with all the pre-match chat, the post-match analysis and the highlights later on Sunday afternoon, you won’t come close to filling a couple of percent. Most importantly though, if you’re watching the game live through this, it’ll let you pause the telly while you head for the toilet, a French coffee, or a celebratory glass of red or a beer!

My French Wakeup Lover for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad

This isn’t as good as the O2 Wake Up Call app, which woke up fans for England games with phone calls from Martin Johnson but for 69p this app will stir you from your slumber for the game in a sultry French accent so you can cheer on Les Bleux.

Okoia MLE3W Rechargeable Magic Egg Light

Instead of watching grown men “chase an egg” on the rugby pitch, these Magic Egg Lights will ensure any Rugby World Cup Final party you’re holding will have some atmosphere. They take six hours to charge but run for eight and have seven different colours, surely enough to match whatever team or nation you support.

Backing Black website

The best All Blacks blog out there and the place all the best Kiwis will be heading pre, during and post match. It’s full of both fan and expert opinion and has some seriously good banter on there. Check out the video of the All Blacks fans celebrating victory – it’ll make you wish you were there.

Panasonic TX-P42S31B 42” Plasma TV

With built-in Freeview HD, this will bring you the Rugby World Cup Final in glorious 1080p high-definition. See the pain and anguish up close on the faces of the French and New Zealand players and connect up all your gadgets to the three HDMI connections. There’s even an SD card slot to show off pictures from your digital camera.

Official Rugby World Cup App for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad

Not only the most comprehensive Rugby World Cup app, this one is also free. You can get live match stats, commentary and video highlights. Also check out the stadium guides to get a feel of what it’d be like to be at the venue.
