Apple, Samsung, Acer… best value gadget gifts for Christmas

Are you still wondering what to get your other half for Christmas? Or are you stumped as to what to get for your Dad – a notoriously difficult group to buy for.

Whatever your Christmas shopping situation, there isn’t long to go now – just one more weekend left before the big day.

Luckily Which? has come up with the 50 best electronics of 2011. The consumer magazine put 2,700 products through their paces to find the best of the best.

To make the list, goods had to be the best value for money, the least likely to go wrong, and the most likely to do their job properly.

Everything from headphones to washing machines to electric blankets made the list, so read on to find the best gift for this Christmas.

Best tablet – Apple iPad 2

No prizes for guessing who took the tablet crown. Despite its hefty price tag, the Apple iPad 2 was found to be the best value for money, and topped the best tablet list.

At around £499, the iPad 2 is one of the most powerful tablets on the market. With a ten hour battery life, dual-core A5 chip and high-res display, it’s no wonder the iPad is still dominating the tablet market.

Best smartphone – Samsung Galaxy S II

Despite its sales dominance in the smartphone market, the iPhone has failed to make the Which? list. Instead, the Samsung Galaxy S II was found to be the best of the bunch.

Released in May this year, the Galaxy S II was an instant hit. An improvement on the popular Galaxy S, this smartphone has a huge 4.3” super-AMOLED and the Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS.

Best laptop – Acer Timeline

There are all sorts of laptops out there at the moment, and they are getting cheaper all the time. But the best value for money is probably the Acer Timeline 4830T.

Priced around the £500 mark, this isn’t the cheapest laptop out there. But you get a lot of bang for your buck. Featuring an Intel Core i3-2310M processor, 3GB of memory and a 320GB hard drive, this laptop is well worth its price tag.
