Apple iPhone 5 – latest leaks assessed

With Apple’s WWDC over for another year, the Californian company is once again top of the tech world news agenda.

We got a number of exciting announcements and product launches at the developer conference this week, with the stunning new MacBook Pro and a first look at iOS 6.

The next-gen MacBook Pro was the highlight of the event, with Apple’s retina display technology making its first appearance in a notebook.

While the new MacBook Pro was the star of the show, iOS 6 was also getting people very excited. We may not have got a look at the next-gen iPhone at WWDC, but the upcoming OS gave us some ideas.

Of course, the tech world doesn’t need a sneak peek at an operating system to speculate on a device. It can do that all by itself – and the iPhone 5 rumour mill has been gathering pace of late.

Navigating through the rumours, leaks and gossip can be challenging, with fakeries and rumour-mongers at every turn. So is there any truth to the latest leaks?

Apple iPhone 5 leaked photos

The latest development to get a lot of people hot under the collar in the tech world was a series of leaked photos claiming to show the next-gen device.

Leaked to tech site TGBUS, which claimed that Photoshop had not been used, the images showed an interesting new design direction for the handset.

Unfortunately, it has been claimed that the images are 3D renders created and posted by a Flickr user, albeit it a very convincing one.

Apple iPhone 5 back casing leak

Another supposed leak came courtesy of tech site 9to5Mac last month, which claimed to show the back casing for the device.

Showing a taller iPhone, the images had lots of rumour sites getting very excited. But again, it was a pesky Flickr user fooling us all.

Duping even the respectable rumour website Gizmodo, Flickr user Martin Hajek was very pleased with his convincing renders and was quick to own up to the fakes.
