This Wednesday, Apple is set to invite the media to a mystery event next week where it is expected to unveil the iPad Mini to the world.
Details of the as yet unconfirmed device have been slow to come to the fore ever since the device hit the rumour mill a few months back.
Now fresh speculation has emerged suggesting that the tablet will actually be launched next Tuesday after press invites failed to be circulated as expected on 10 October.
Some have argued that this is an attempt to pip Microsoft’s Surface tablet to the post, as the iPad Mini launch would come three days ahead of the Surface; set to make its debut on 26 October 26 to coincide with the launch of the Windows 8 OS. Here’s the latest on the iPad Mini.
Apple iPad Mini: Eight models on offer?
According to reports, the iPad Mini will come in eight different models – each offering a different storage option and price tag, and all available in a choice of black or white casing.
An inventory list shows an 8GB Wi-Fi only option coming in at €249, while an option with Wi-Fi plus 3G is priced at €349.
A 16GB version is priced at €349 and €449 respectively, while a 32GB version comes in at €449/€549 and a 64GB version comes in at €549/€649. Tablet fans are also rumoured to able to added integrated radio for an extra £75.
Apple iPad Mini: Will it sink or swim?
Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, RBS analyst Wanli Wang argued that the “iPad mini will be a big hit if Apple prices it below $300”.
If this pricing is right, consumers will find the iPad Mini hard to resist. What may be a disappointment for some is the fact that the tablet is set to only be 3G ready, rather than 4G enabled.
With Apple already said to have ordered 10 million units, at least the iPad Mini’s maker seems to be assured that it will be met with success.
