A number of rumours have surfaced regarding features and specs for the Apple iPad Mini tablet, and instead of taking these at face value some experts have decided to delve a little deeper.
The latest round of reports suggests that the case renderings and schematics for the model will give the iPad Mini a height of 7.87 inches and a width of 5.3 inches.
The tablet is also said to have a thickness of 7.4mm, putting it almost on par with the iPod touch at 7.3mm thick. This also falls well below the third-generation iPad which has a thickness of 9.3mm.
The feasibility of reducing the proportions of the iPad from a current 9.5 inches by 7.31 inches has also been called into question.
Apple iPad Mini size and price
Speculations about screen size have also varied from a compact seven inches to the eight inches cited in The Wall Street Journal.
The New York Times has also argued that “several people with knowledge of the project” have confirmed a screen size of 7.85 inches.
Price points for the iPad Mini have also ranged from $249 and $299, with many converging on the idea that the final figure will more than likely fall below $350.
Apple iPad Mini: will it get off the ground?
Analysts and techies have given conflicting views of how well the iPad Mini will be received upon its release.
Some analysts have argued that Apple could 6 million iPad Minis in the first three months alone, if the tablet is launched in time for Christmas.
In contrast, a recent survey revealed that 42% tech fans think that the upcoming release of the Apple iPad Mini is a mistake, with some stating that the project will be Apple’s biggest failure to date.
The public have spoken, but this is Apple we’re talking about. If it manages to squeeze in decent specs, and that retina display, into a $200 device, it will fly off the shelves.
