Apple iPad 3 – hottest leaks so far

The big day is nearly upon us – when we’ll finally see Apple’s next generation of tablet. If the rumours are to be believed (and we certainly hope they are), then we’ll be seeing the iPad 3 in early March.

And as we draw ever-nearer to the long-awaited launch, the rumours and speculation just keep on coming, with more and more believability.

There are obviously a lot of people involved with the design and manufacturer of a tablet, and as the device enters the final stages of production, it becomes harder and harder to keep a lid on leaks.

And we’ve been getting some pretty juicy leaks recently. They don’t give us concrete details, but they do mean we can make some pretty good guesses as to what to expect. So what are the leaks you need to know about?

Apple iPad 3 high-res LCD panel

One of the latest leaks to be doing the rounds concerns the iPad 3’s screen. Published on Japanese site Macotakara, the images appear to show a high-res LCD panel.

Manufactured by Sharp, the panel looks around 9.7 inches in size and adds fuel to the rumour flames that we’ll see a 2,048 x 1,536 retina display.

Apple iPad 3 casing

This leak up popped up a couple of weeks ago. As some of the first pictures to show the alleged device, they set the tech world alight.

Showing what appeared to be the casing of the back of the iPad 3, which was slightly larger than the iPad 2’s, the leak hinted at a larger battery and slimmer logic board.

Quad-core Apple iPad 3

A quad-core processor appears to be all but confirmed, if the screenshots showing data from an iPad 3 prototype are to be believed.

The screenshots, leaked to tech site BGR, also claim that there will be two versions of the iPad 3 – a Wi-Fi only model and a 3G/LTE model.
